Plane wear

Not pretty, but this is where you "lay your money down."

yellow chain and leaves

A yellow chain, a little worse for wear, but gleaming in a shaft of sun hitting a corner that caught some fallen leaves.

Worn Out Elephant Ears

Imagine how many times these ears were flapped to get so worn out at the edges - or was he born this way?

Bolt #2

Worn and weathered bolt in larger perspective

Worn Bolt on a Weathered Bridge

Long, strong new planks of wood -- shiny new bolts. Loud noises as holes are drilled and the big, bold bolts are crushed into the tough blond planks. A new bridge is built over a creek -- the old one had washed out. Three years later, two photographers stand on the bridge to capture the grace of the rocky, rushing ocean-drawn creek, always new. One glances down at a worn and weathered bolt, melding with the mossy green, roughened bridge. She thinks, they are really together now -- they even look the same.

Why wear?

To the awakened eye, the worn and used shows how "[t]hings are either devolving to, or evolving from, nothingness."

In the worn tool or utensil, there is also the dimension of beings who have come to the object, used it, and passed on.

In the living world, beings intersect with the physical world, pushing it, piece by piece, along the path while, themselves, also evolving and devolving.

In physical world, motion arises from falling water, gravity, heat and cold, plays the same role, and passes on.

Soren playing soccer

I liked this so much I thought I would post it. Can't even begin to detail the serious pixel manipulation involved!

worn out stove with junk in the top

Didn't do much to this photo except crop it and sharpen it up a little.

purple flowers on a rusty trellis

This is a digital painting from a macro shot using a 180mm Canon macro lens and a Canon 5D. The flowers are true to size. I think it is a more attractive image painted then as a straight photo. Cropped and increased saturation in Photoshop CS3 -- painting done in chalk using Painter X.

Worn: Hinge from pumping station at Wolf Lake

What do you think -- does this hinge work or is it too old?

Photo from Cathedral Falls

It was great to have a photo-retreat week in western North Carolina. I am slowly working through my images -- here is one from the first day at Cathedral Falls in Balsam Grove.
